As part of the lecture “Production Technology”, an excursion with the case study winners to DOERING GmbH in Sinn took place on 16 th November 2018. In the third case study of the lecture, the students worked on a task for the casting design of a cast component while avoiding casting defects. The cast component (head of a press) was viewed during the excursion to the excitement of the students.

Accompanying the lecture “Production Technology” the PtU offers a total of six case studies. These include a task that is set in cooperation with an industrial company and can be worked on by the students (teams) on a voluntary basis.

Vinzent Monnerjahn successfully defended his results on “Simultanes Umformen und Fügen im Fertigungsprozess Spaltprofilieren” on November 13 th 2018. We wish him all the best and continued success in his further career.

On 2. October 2018, the members of DFG priority program 1640 (SPP1640) and industrial delegates from twenty different companies gathered at the “Erholungsgesellschaft Aachen” to participate in a one-day workshop on joining by plastic deformation. This event which was jointly hosted by Institute of Applied Mechanics (IFAM, RWTH-Aachen) and Institute of Metal Forming (IBF, RWTH-Aachen) aimed at transferring the findings of the SPP1640 project into industrial applications.

After more than 10 years of development and production, the multi-technology machine 3D Servo Press was completed at the beginning of 2018.

On 25.10.2018 the grant contract for the LOEWE-funded research project EfoS (“Surface modification in car body part production”) was handed over at the PtU by the Hessian State Secretary Patrick Burghardt.

Als Gastgeber des diesjährigen Assistententreffens der Wissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft für Produktionstechnik (WGP) boten das Institut für Produktionsmanagement, Technologie und Werkzeugmaschinen (PTW) und das Institut für Produktionstechnik und Umformmaschinen (PtU) vom 24. bis 26.09.2018 ein interessantes und abwechslungsreiches Programm für den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs.

On 25.09.2018 the 13 th Umformtechnisches Kolloquium Darmstadt was held under the motto “Modern forming technology – flexible, versatile, resilient”.

Mr. Kirchner already completed his apprenticeship at PtU and has been working for us as an experimental field technician ever since.

From September 13 th to 14 th , all project partners of the Allegro research association (high-performance components made of aluminium alloys using resource-optimised process technologies) gathered for a joint two-day workshop.
