Video shoot at PtU on digitisation and AI in metal forming

2020/09/22

The otherwise busy SFB hall of the Institute of Production Engineering and Forming Machines (PtU) was quieter and more deserted than ever before on some days in August. There was no flexing, hammering or noise from the production equipment and no trace of the otherwise present experimental field technicians. Nevertheless: All in the interest of science and teaching, as filming for digitisation in metal forming technology was carried out by the PtU in cooperation with the Mittelstand 4.0 Competence Centre Darmstadt. A correspondingly quiet environment had to be created for the sound recordings.

In the technical environment of the SFB hall, the film team also showed a considerable repertoire of equipment. In addition to professional camera and lighting equipment, a drone was also used to record spectacular scenes.

In the five-minute video, the viewer is given an overview of the PtU's industry-related surroundings. In addition, a first insight into the fascinating possibilities of digitalisation is to be given on the basis of research results in the field of tool wear in shearing processes. It is thus not only aimed at interested students, but also shows a real benefit of digitisation for small and medium-sized companies.

We are looking forward to showing the video here soon. If you can't wait that long, you are welcome to contact the Institute for Production Engineering and Forming Machines or the SME 4.0 Competence Centre Darmstadt for a technical discussion earlier.
