The metallography laboratory of the PtU is a preparation laboratory for sample preparation and microscopic examinations.
The examination with the light microscope and the scanning electron microscope requires a prior sample preparation. Devices for wet cutting, grinding, polishing and embedding of samples are available at the metallography laboratory. Subsequent examination with the light microscope Axioplan by the company Zeiss with the integrated camera Axiocam 105 color allow precise geometry measurements and digitalization to analyze for example the layer thickness in the cross section of the sample. The scanning electron microscope can be used if higher resolutions are needed.
