PtU at the HxGN Live Virtual Manufacturing 2024 in Marburg

The finite element method (FEM) is an essential tool for the design and optimisation of forming processes. In this context, parameter studies play a decisive role in identifying efficient solutions for various process chains and forming operations. The use of an application programming interface (API) enables automated and dynamic parameter studies to be carried out in the finite element method (FEM) using an interface between external programming code and FEM software.

The potentials of parameter studies were presented by our scientific staff Christian Siedbürger and Jonas Moske at the HxGN Live Virtual Manufacturing 2024 on 11.06.2024 – 12.06.2024. In this context, the advantages of the recently implemented Python interface in the SimufactForming software were discussed using application examples and a method for the efficient use of this interface was presented. With regard to the execution type of parameter studies using FEM, a classification into three levels can be made:

  • Manual parameter studies, which follow the trial & error principle.
  • The automatic execution of parameter studies using a pre-programmed Python script.
  • The use of AI modelling approaches to multiply the parameter space without additional computational effort.

The complex approach, which is based on machine learning, is a promising solution method that the PtU would like to continue researching intensively. The PtU would like to thank the Hexagon team for the opportunity to be part of this conference and praises the good organisation of this event.
