Successful promotion of Thomas Kessler

2023/04/25

On 25.04.2023, the successful disputation of our former scientific employee Thomas Kessler took place. His dissertation is entitled “Curvature measurement and control of multi-stage processes in three-roll bending of profiles”.

The work extends known control approaches to ensure simplified process control and focuses on reducing process non-productive times. In addition, systems for measuring the curvature of bent profiles were developed and validated as part of the work.

Through the clever combination of online and offline control and the necessary implementation of measuring systems, it was possible for the first time to realise the control of multi-stage process control, as is frequently used in three-roll profile bending.

A specially developed hand-guided contour measuring device for offline measurement of the bent profile and a laser-based online measurement, which are already in the transition to industrial application, were presented.

Mr Kessler's approach impressively demonstrates the applicability of new approaches in control and measurement technology to raise the efficiency and economy of the highly flexible manufacturing process of three-roll profile bending to a new level.

The PtU thanks Mr Kessler for his many years of commitment and wishes him all the best and much success for his future.
