On 01.02.2023 we were pleased to welcome our new research associate, Clemens Schlegel, to the PtU team. Within the project ProKI , Mr. Schlegel is studying applications of artificial intelligence for monitoring forming processes and their introduction in small and medium-sized enterprises.

During his studies, Mr. Schlegel already contributed to the development of AI-based process monitoring at PtU. Within a project work titled “Semantic Segmenting Wear Monitoring of Blanking Punches through Image-based Application of Convolutional Neural Networks” he and a group of fellow students developed a system for stroke-wise optical monitoring of the punch in a highly dynamic blanking process. Using convolutional neural networks, the analysis of the spatial wear distribution on the blanking tool was established.
