Research and teaching at IfU/PtU can look back on a tradition of almost 50 years. The institute lives decisively from its doctoral candidates and is constantly developing. Reason enough to organize an alumni reunion, linking the challenges of yesteryear with current research questions. And so about 30 alumni from the different eras of the institute met in Darmstadt. Prof. Dieter Schmoeckel founded the Institute for Forming Technology (IfU) back in 1976. In 1989, it was renamed to Institute for Production Engineering and Forming Machines (PtU) and has been headed by Prof. Peter Groche since 1999. The institute has always focused on the fascinating possibilities of forming technology.
At the alumni meeting, anecdotes and experiences were exchanged during a guided tour. The contact between former and current doctoral candidates was particularly valuable. A special highlight was the 3D servo press. Over coffee and cake, the equipment and machines were inspected in detail. We would like to thank all participants and are already looking forward to the next reunion.
