Succesful disputation on the topic “Flexible roll beading”

In the context of a digital disputation, the research assistant Mr. Tianbo Wang successfully defends his dissertation on the topic “Flexible roll beading – an analytical model for the design of wrinkle-free profiles with height-variable cross-section” on April 19, 2022.

The focus of Mr. Wang's work is on the forming process of flexible roll beading, which enables the production of open profiles with configurable, variable-height cross-section shapes. The flexible process is limited by its process limit, which show up as wrinkles in the outer edge of the profile.

Since numerical or experimental process design is impractical due to the effort involved, Mr. Wang developed an analytical model for the process as part of his doctoral dissertation to enable practical product design. Numerical and experimental validations of the model demonstrated its validity.
