Johannes Hofmann, participant of the excellence program “Forming Your Future”, introduces himself and his future topic

My name is Johannes Hofmann and I am currently studying for a master's degree in mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt. Due to my interest in gaining more experience with scientific working methods, I started working as a scientific assistant at PtU in 2019. Since then, I have been offered exciting insights into various projects, including surface smoothing, paper forming and the manufacturing of fuel cell components. During my bachelor thesis, the knowledge I had acquired was further expanded through my work in the field of automated fabrication with industrial robots.

The program „Forming Your Future – Forming Technology Excellence“ not only gives me the opportunity to broaden my professional horizon by working on a self-determined, innovative project, but also allows me to discover a new perspective of the PtU. My current research, which focuses on the topic “sustainability and forming machines”, suggests the optimization of a rollforming unit on the basis of ecological factors. The opportunity to work on my very own project, based on current challenges in the forming industry, as well as the familiarization with the institute’s structures and its staff makes this program an ideal addition to my master's degree at TU Darmstadt.
