ICFG awards Alessandro Franceschi with the International Prize 2021

We are particularly pleased to announce that our research associate, Mr. Alessandro Franceschi, has been awarded the 2021 ICFG International Prize for his publication “Towards Tailored Residual Stresses in Cold Forging Processes”. This prize is awarded to young researchers of outstanding merit who have written original papers that meet the objectives of the International Cold Forging Group. A presentation of the work took place during the plenary session of the event in the presence of all ICFG members. We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Mr. Franceschi for this achievement.

Mr. Franceschi's research work addressed the topic of new strategies for targeted residual stress induction in cold forging through the use of active elements and alternative process routes. Mr. Franceschi's results lead to the proposal of an innovative paradigm for cold-formed components, for which a systematic setting and exploitation of an optimized stress state is now foreseeable. This new concept has been named by the author “Tailored Residual Stress Design”.

The author would like to thank the DFG for funding his research work as part of the Priority Program 2013, as well as the companies Strecon, developer and manufacturer of prestressing tool systems, and ZWEZ, expert in functional coatings for forming processes.
