Visit of the iron foundry Römheld & Moelle

2019/12/17

On 12 December, the Römheld & Moelle Eisengießerei GmbH gave a group of seven students exciting insights into their work processes. Previously, the students had successfully taken part in a case study on the subject of “cast part construction” as part of the lecture “Production technology”, the task of which was conceived in cooperation between Römheld & Moelle and the PtU. First, the students were given a compact overview of the company history and the departments of the tradition-steeped company. In addition, the modern mould filling and solidification simulation used in the company was presented in detail. In the subsequent tour around the company, the students were able to get an idea of the various production steps, starting with CNC milling of the polystyrene models, through the various steps involved in moulding, to post-processing of the cast parts. The heart of the process was then also the crowning conclusion of the excursion – the tapping of the induction furnace and the casting of three parts. We would like to thank the Römheld & Moelle Eisengießerei GmbH very much for the many new and certainly unusual impressions that the students received during the excursion. Special thanks also go to Jürgen Naas, who guided us through “his” foundry with a lot of expertise, competence and enthusiasm.
