Project ‘NanoTi – No chance for bacteria on implants’ impresses jury in the Scientists category
After several pitches, inspiring workshops, and numerous engaging discussions, Lukas Kluy (former chief engineer at the Institute for Production Engineering and Forming Machines (PtU) and Nick Philippi (research associate at PtU) were honored with two awards at the TU Darmstadt Idea Competition 2025:
1st place in the Researchers’ category
Thomas Weiland Foundation Science Award
Their project “NanoTi” focuses on the development of nanostructured titanium materials that make implants more durable, antibacterial, and biocompatible. The jury particularly praised the clear development process, high impact, and strong market potential of the project.
The TU Idea Competition has long been a key driver for research-based start-ups and interdisciplinary innovation projects. Embedded in the INNODAY25 of TU Darmstadt, the best projects were awarded on October 30, 2025, at the darmstadtium.
The PtU is delighted about this outstanding success and warmly congratulates Lukas Kluy and Nick Philippi on their remarkable achievement. This double success highlights once again the application-oriented and innovative research at PtU – bridging the gap from fundamental science to industrial practice.
