Successful dissertation by Thiemo Germann
2025/08/04

On 22 July 2025, our research associate Thiemo Germann successfully defended his dissertation. His thesis is entitled ‘Application-specific adaptation of the dynamic behaviour of paraffin-based expansion factors’.
Paraffin-based expansion actuators are characterised by their high power density and small size, but in dynamic applications they reach their limits in terms of response time and controllability. Adapting these properties to specific requirements is therefore a key challenge for their practical use.
In his work, Mr Germann developed model-based approaches for the targeted adaptation of the dynamic behaviour of these actuators. Material, design and system dynamics parameters were taken into account. The methods developed enable application-oriented design of the actuators and contribute to the use of this technology in process control.
The PtU thanks Mr Germann for his dedicated and successful research work and wishes him all the best for his professional and personal future and continued success.
