Jonas Launhardt has joined our team as a research associate at PtU on October 15^th, 2024. Mr. Launhardt is part of the “TriboKI” project. This project investigates how machine learning (ML) can be used to model the tribological system in cold forging. The aim of the project is to use ML-based models to calculate friction in finite element (FE) simulations.

During his studies, Mr. Launhardt was already able to gain experience in the tribology of cold forging as part of our excellence program “Forming your Future”, especially in cooperation with the International Cold Forging Group (ICFG), and has already actively participated in different international conferences of the ICFG. In addition to lectures on forming technology, he deepened his knowledge with study projects at the PtU in the field of friction modelling and FE simulation in cold forging.

He also wrote his master's thesis at the Institute of Production Engineering and Forming Machines in the field of data-efficient ML-based friction modelling.
