Timon Suckow has successfully completed his PhD!

2024/01/24

The successful disputation of our former research associate Timon Suckow took place on 17 January 2024. His dissertation is entitled “Temperature-supported process chains for roll forming and laser beam welding of high-strength profiles made of the aluminium alloy EN AW-7075”.

With the goal of processing high-strength aluminium alloys for resource-optimised lightweight construction applications using roll forming, Mr. Suckow has identified and improved possible process methods and design strategies. The work focuses on the design of the roll forming process, the identification of suitable process-integrated heat treatments and the use of laser welding to enable the production of completely closed profiles.

The investigations also focus on the numerical and experimental detection of process limits using suitable failure models and the realistic modelling of springback after the forming process. The knowledge gained demonstrates the feasibility of forming high-strength aluminum alloys into open and closed profiles, but also enables the targeted adjustment of mechanical properties using accurate thermal process routes.

The PtU would like to thank Mr. Suckow for his dedication over many years and wishes him all the best and every success for his professional and private future.
