Four presentations and a gold medal at the Olympic Games of Metal Forming

2023/10/17

From Sept. 24 to Sept. 29, PtU was participating the 14th International Conference on the Technology of Plasticityin Mandelieu at the French Riviera. The triennial conference is known among experts as the “Olympic Games of Metal Forming”. This event provides an important stage for research institutes and industrial companies worldwide to present their current work and to discuss their latest findings.

This year, special honor was given to our institutes director Prof. Groche, who won the JSTP award. This gold medal is awarded every three years during the conference to two outstanding researchers who contribute to the worldwide progress of precision forming technology with high-quality research work. As the award winner, Prof. Groche gave a keynote lecture on flexibilization in forming technology, which has been a key topic at PtU for many years. In addition, he was part of the expert workshop evaluating the future role of data science in production engineering.

In addition to Prof. Groche, three research associates attended the conference and presented their work published in the conference proceedings. Christian Kubik presented new research results in the field of simulation-based data augmentation for wear prediction in stamping. Thiemo Germann spoke on the topic of axial tube sealing by plastic deformation using rotary swaging. And Marco Becker presented an approach for predicting wear in roll forming using data-driven modeling.
