Excursion to Römheld & Moelle Eisengießerei GmbH in Mainz with the winners of the TdF case study “Quality assurance in casting”

Within the framework of the lecture “Production Technology”, students work on case studies on realistic problems from industry. The case study on “Quality assurance in casting” was prepared and carried out in cooperation with Römheld & Moelle Eisengießerei GmbH in Mainz. In the early morning hours on 21 st November 2018, the winners of the case study had the opportunity to get to know the partner company and the casting process during an excursion.
Römheld & Moelle Eisengießerei GmbH produces large castings for forming tools and plant components. During the extensive guided tour, the students were introduced to the individual work steps from model production to the post-processing of the cast components. The furnace tapping and the subsequent casting of two components were particularly spectacular and impressive. During the following company presentation, photographs of past projects and various simulations of the casting process were presented.
