Excursion with the winning teams of the TdF case study “Powder metallurgy” to GKN Sinter Metals in Bonn

2018/01/21

Despite the winterly weather, the excursion to the production plant of the industrial partner GKN Sinter Metals GmbH in Bonn took place on 18.12.2017. The field trip involved the winning teams of the 4 th case study of the lecture “Production Technology” on the topic “Economy in Powder Metallurgy”.

After Mr. Tiller's presentation of the company and an introduction to the research and teaching environment of PtU by Mr. Sticht, the students had the opportunity to present and discuss their results on the design and cost accounting of a sample component provided by GKN Sinter Metals. During the following tour through the production hall, the students were able to observe the real processes and the equipment. Also, numerous questions from the students could be answered by Mr. Tiller. Mr. Pauly has given an overview of the entry programs as GKN employees.

The case studies are tasks that are performed voluntarily by students in teamwork during the lecture “Production Technology”. The tasks are developed in cooperation with companies. This enables mechanical engineering students to gain experience in industrial applications related to the topics studied in the first semester and to gain an initial insight into possible areas of their future professional field.

The PtU and the participating students would like to thank the GKN Sinter Metals GmbH and especially Mr. Pauly and Mr. Tiller for the excursion and the support in the case study.
