    Interdisciplinary Summerschool with Deakin University Geelong, Australia

    Ten PhD students of the Collaborative Research Center 666 (CRC 666) had the opportunity to participate in a Summer School together with the Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) at the Deakin University in Geelong (Australia) and get an impression of the research work of their colleagues on the other side of the world. After a two-week visit to Australia in the spring of this year, ten Australian scientists came to visit TU Darmstadt.

    Erste Mittelstand 4.0-Regionalkonferenz findet in Darmstadt statt

    Das Mittelstand 4.0-Kompetenzzentrum Darmstadt ist vom 27.–28. Juli Gastgeber der ersten Regionalkonferenz der Initiative Mittelstand 4.0 des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Energie. Während der erste Tag dem internen Austausch zwischen den Akteuren der Initiative dient, wird am zweiten Tag das Thema Weiterbildung im Umfeld von Digitalisierung für die Öffentlichkeit näher beleuchtet.

    Project completion “Process-integrated manufacturing of sandwich structures”

    At the beginning of the year, the research project “Process-integrated manufacturing of sandwich structures” was successfully completed. The two-year-project was funded by the European Research Association for Sheet Metal Working (EFB) and the AiF.

    New Equipment: Screen Printing Machine

    Halbautomatische Siebdruckanlage

    The institute has a new machine since one month. The semi-automatic screen printing machine is currently used to manufacture sensors, in particular strain gauges. These are printed on steel sheet as substrate in order to be able to produce multifunctional components with integrated sensors. The screen printing machine was purchased for the project “Methods for the design of formed sheet metal parts with printed sensors”, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.

    Project completion „Dry Shear Cutting of Sandwich Panels“

    At the beginning of the year, the research project „Dry Shear Cutting of Sandwich Panels“ was successfully completed. The two-year-project was funded by the Research Association for Steel Application (FOSTA) and the AiF. It was integrated in the AiF-/DFG-Cluster called “Dry Shear Cutting of metallic layered composite materials”. Special thanks are directed to the companies that supported the project by material supply and consulting.
