The winners of the case study “powder metallurgy” had the opportunity to deepen the theoretical contents of the lecture “Technology of manufacturing processes” in practice at the company KS Gleitlager GmbH.
After an invitation for lunch with the former PtU employee Dr. Damm (Vice President Application Engineering, Product Design und QM), the participants got an insight into the entire business group and the diverse technology fields in the concern. During the factory tour the individual process steps of the bearing production were shown and the variety of shapes for the producible parts was demonstrated. In the subsequent final round with Dr. Damm both the technical and commercial issues, such as the future of the bearing industry were discussed with the interested students.
Case studies are voluntary tasks for students (teams) accompanying the lecture “Technology of manufacturing processes”. The assignments result from the cooperation with industrial companies. Thus, the first semester students of mechanical engineering can deepen their knowledge in the field of industrial implementation and get a first insight into the possible sectors of their future vocational fields.
We thank the KS Gleitlager GmbH and Dr. Damm for the hospitality and the interesting insights into the bearing industry.
