Successful disputation by Marco Becker!

2025/07/02

In June, Marco Becker, Head of the Profiling Technology Department, successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Data-Driven Method for the Technical Improvement of Manufacturing Processes Based on Strategic Performance Indicators Using the Example of Roll Forming.”

The rapid advances in artificial intelligence offer new opportunities for manufacturing companies to increase productivity and secure their competitiveness. However, traditional industrial enterprises face particular challenges, as their production environments are often characterized by long-serving systems and historically evolved structures. These are further compounded by investment barriers and the demographic loss of expertise.

To enable a sound evaluation of technical measures for digital transformation, Mr. Becker developed a procedural model during his PhD that links strategic business performance indicators with production data. Using roll forming as an example, he demonstrated the potential of data-driven models through three application cases: improving the energy efficiency of profile transport during forming, increasing the time efficiency of tool maintenance, and enhancing the time efficiency of machine setup operations.

The PtU would like to thank Mr. Becker for his many years of commitment and wishes him all the best and much success in his professional and personal future.
