Seminar 2024 at Chalet Giersch

2024/04/29

Every one and a half years, the institute organises a seminar with the aim of developing improvements in the institute's day-to-day processes. This year, we focussed on the writing of different types of texts that we frequently encounter in our day-to-day work at the institute. As an introduction, we listened to an interesting presentation by the TU Darmstadt writing centre. Over the next few days, we created, evaluated and optimised handouts for the most important text types, which will make writing easier for us in our day-to-day work at the institute. In addition to the academic work, there was also some free time and team building. We spent the weekend before the seminar together on the ski slopes of La Clusaz and Manigod, competed in an exciting group Olympics, hiked through deep snow at night and tested the locals' means of transport at the Nocturne de Paret. To round things off, we enjoyed a typical regional meal at Les Sapins restaurant and on the way back we made a detour to the ALICE experiment at CERN, as previously reported. Overall, the seminar was very successful and, as last time, brought the whole institute closer together. We would like to thank all the organisers and helpers, the team at Chalet Giersch and CERN once again.
